| Whether you are are veteran poker player or just starting out you will need to adapt your game a little
for league format play. Here are a few considerations and simple common sense advice for playing in
our leagues. |
| Consistency |
| The first thing to try and always remember when you are playing in a league game or tournament
is that consistency of play is going to help you out tremendously in the long haul. Leagues are
about your performance in a number of games, not just one single game. You are therefore more
likely to finish in a paid position if your play is consistent. For example, a player who plays 3
tournaments against 50 people and finishes in 1st, 40th and 36th respectively will finish in a lower
overall position than one who finishes in 7th, 12th and, say, 3rd. even though they came 1st in one
tournament the relatively poorer finishes in the other 2 will bring down the overall score. |
| Changing Tactics |
| Be aware of your current situation upon entering a game. In league play you should check the
leaderboard regularly and see where you are currently ranked and how many games you have left to
play. This will help determine you strategy for the upcoming games. |
| For example, you may be a very
aggressive player, always raising big and bluffing at lots of pots. As you will know sometimes this
can work for you, sometimes not. However, consider that you have only 1 game left to play and are
currently in 7th position in the league. Say that the league pays out to the top 10 positions,
so you are in the money. |
| So how do you play your last game? Well, based on the ranking of the
other players in the league you have to make a choice - maybe you are going to play aggressive and
push to move up a few positions by hopefully winning the last game. But maybe, however, this too
dangerous of a tactic and you decide to play more conservatively to guarantee holding on to your
already reasonable ranking and guarantee of a payout. |
| It's up to, but by considering and changing
your tactics you can maximize your profits and minimize your losses, which afterall is what poker
is all about! |
| In the same method as devising your own game tactics it can be useful to try and determine the
tactics of your opponents. If for example you know the person who is betting behind you at your
table could be trying to hold on to their league rank then it may be a good idea to raise them a
lot - they will be more likely to fold to avoid losing. |
| Play to your strengths |
| Our leagues give you the option to play your games in single table tournaments or multi table
tournaments. Play what you're best at - if single tables are your strength then play these leagues,
or if you prefer multi table against many people play these leagues. |
