The idea of Holiday Freerolls Explained
Each freeroll celebrates a seasonal holiday or special day somewhere in the world, some are very well known, others less so! It’s all a bit of fun really.
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season.
Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, living or dead. Learn more about Memorial Day on Wikipedia here

How does the best 3 out of 5 Freeroll Series work?
The way these series work is that there are 5 freerolls per series each with it’s own pot but, if you take part in at least 3 then your finishing positions are added up and the best overall performer gets a big FreeD bonus.
So lowest score wins – best of 3 out of 5. The best possible score then would be 3 – you get 3 first places in 3 of 5. In the other 2 games in the 5 you could do really bad, come 100th and it would not matter, you would win based on coming 1st 3 times.

Why Play in a Free Poker League ?
If you have not tried a poker league before then you should! They are perfect for any player who wants to take a more strategic approach and/or maybe a break from some of the chip flinging that can go on in freerolls and regular games – that’s because in leagues luck and chance are much reduced and probability comes to the fore.
So the players who play well and play consistently and don’t take crazy risks tend to come out on top.
Leagues are about your performance in a number of games, not just one single game. You are therefore more likely to finish in a paid position if your play is consistent.
Leagues are, in short, a great place to improve poker skills and also to play a more “educated” and sophisticated game of poker. For example you will have to learn to adjust your game as the league progresses depending on where you are on the leaderboard and how may games are left – For example, do you need more aggressive or defensive?
See the Free Poker League FAQ for more on this – in particular read the sections titled with Strategy.

Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March or May.
The celebration of Mother’s Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration.[1][2][3][4] Despite this, in some countries Mother’s Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.

Labour Day (Labor Day in the USA) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
For many countries, “Labour Day” is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers’ Day, which occurs on 1 May. Some countries (such as the UK) vary the actual date of their celebrations so that the holiday occurs on a Monday close to 1 May – Learn more about Labour Day and how it is celebrated here
International Workers’ Day International Workers’ Day is the commemoration of the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. The police were trying to disperse a public assembly during a general strike for the eight-hour workday, when an unidentified person threw a bomb at them. The police reacted by firing on the workers, killing dozens of demonstrators and several of their own officers. “Reliable witnesses testified that all the pistol flashes came from the center of the street, where the police were standing, and none from the crowd. Moreover, initial newspaper reports made no mention of firing by civilians. A telegraph pole at the scene was filled with bullet holes, all coming from the direction of the police – Learn more about International Workers Day and how it is celebrated here

About Anzac Day (see bottom of page for a tribute video)
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, originally commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
It now more broadly commemorates all those who served and died in military operations for their countries.
In 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers were part of an Allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula in order to open the way to the Black Sea for the Allied navies.
The ANZAC force landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Ottoman Army commanded by Mustafa Kemal (later known as Atatürk). The campaign quickly became a stalemate battle of attrition that dragged on for 8 months.
At the end of 1915, the Allied forces were evacuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. The Allied casualties included 21,255 from the United Kingdom, an estimated 10,000 dead soldiers from France, 8,709 from Australia, 2,721 from New Zealand, and 1,358 from British India. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians and New Zealanders at home and 25 April quickly became the day on which they remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in war.

Well known to Thais and many tourists and travellers, new year in Thailand (The Songkran festival), literally meaning astrological passage) is celebrated from 13 to 16 April. It coincides with many of the new year calendars in south and south east Asia.
Some of the most famous celebrations are in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where it continues for six days or longer. It has also become a party for foreigners and an additional reason for many to visit Thailand for immersion in another culture.
The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the throwing of water, sometimes mixed with coloured talc. It is also a time to visit family and pay respect to elders and monks. Some will also cleanse Budda figures which is Chiang Mai is done energetically as the figures are paraded through the streets so that the crowds can toss water at them (it can get very wet and colourful!)
There have been complaints from traditionalists in recent years who are concerned that it has given way more to party than the original reasons, that and the problems that result from a lot of booze and many accidents occurring due to water being thrown into the faces of cyclists!

The first game in this series was Girls Day in Japan, not the most well known outside Japan really! St Patricks day the seciod game, that’s a lot more well known. Easter even more so but if you are a bit rusty on your Easter info here are the basics. Easter (Old English: Ēostre) or the Pasch or (among Eastern Orthodox) Pascha (Latin: Pascha; Greek: Πάσχα, Paskha; Aramaic: פַּסחא Pasḥa; from Hebrew: פֶּסַח Pesaḥ)is a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament.
Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday in the Catholic Church), commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper,[6][7] as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday. The festival is referred to in English by a variety of different names including Easter Day, Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day and Resurrection Sunday. Learn more about Easter here
